BROKEN (Fine Art Print)
This is a child’s phone home screen, smashed. A multitude of apps behind real cracked glass, the ordinary ones most kids have: Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, all of them. I finished it the same week the UK decided under-16s shouldn’t be on social media at all, and by then the evidence had been piling up for a decade. These platforms don’t just eat children’s time. Their algorithms feed boys a steady diet of misogynist content and feed girls comparison and self-doubt, before either of them are old enough to question what they’re being shown. A generation of boys taught to look down on girls, and a generation of girls taught to look down on themselves, by apps built to hold their attention for the purpose of profits, rather than protection.
The frame is gold gilt, deliberately. We keep dressing all of this up as normal. A phone is a birthday present, a way to stay in touch, the thing every other kids in the class already has, while for a lot of children it’s where the damage actually gets done. So the damage sits behind the glass, and something nice-looking sits in front of it. That’s exactly how easily this gets ignored.
The original carries a dedication to Hollie Gazzard, kiled by her ex-partner in 2014. This print exists so the argument can hang on more walls than mine.
Every print is giclée printed on Enhanced Matte fine art paper, 200gsm, using archival pigment inks rated to last over 100 years. Museum-standard quality, made to be framed and lived with. Packaging made from recyclable cardboard, and paper from sustainable forests. Plastic kept out wherever possible. The work rages against a broken world. It shouldn't trash the planet getting to your wall.
Choose your size below. 10% of the profits from all sales goes to Rape Crisis England & Wales, every month.
A note on colour: these inks are built to last, but like all artwork, keep your print out of direct sunlight to protect its vibrancy for decades.
